In March 2011 Brittany and I went on a Mexican Cruise and then spent a few days in Hollywood. Neither of us had been before and were really excited to finally see the city’s iconic sign.
We arrived at our hostel in the early afternoon and were lucky to catch the last tour of the day. It turned out to be a bit more strenuous of a hike than we were expecting, I wore a skirt & flip flops and Britt wished she had worn shorts.
Our tour guide was really fun, knew all kinds of fun facts about the city & the sign which always makes it more enjoyable. We also had the benefit of going on a tour provided by our hostel so it was a great way for us to make friends and got to know the other girls in our room, which we ended up watching movies & playing monopoly with later that night.
I didn't realize that the letters are acutally donated. In the 70's the sign was in really bad shape & thanks to rock star Alice Cooper who campaigned to restore the sign. Each donor gave $27,700 to update the old wooden sign for new steel letters.
To one side is the Hollywood sign and to the other is the city scape.
Have you ever been to the Hollywood sign? What was your experience like?

Yeah, you realize you posted this like the day that a severed head was found near this sign? I've never been there, but I heard that it is a nice place for a hike/picnic. When I go, I'll bring Fava beans and a nice chianti. LOL!
