My first meal after I arrived in Israel/Palestine was in underground shops in Old Jerusalem.
A coke and falafel. The friend I was traveling with had previously expressed his affection for falafels and warned me he would be eating plenty and wouldn't wait long before hunting one down after we got there.
I had a general idea, but honestly chickpeas? I had no idea what fried chickpeas were going to be like. YUM!!
First to go in is fried chickpea balls in a pita, typically they had a salad bar type set up where you can dress your falafel with toppings ( salads, cabbages, pickled veggies, sauces and dressings) and then you enjoy! I would say they are comparable to Mexico's tacos only a Middle Eastern version.
I haven't had once since I got back but I did find out about a local Middle Eastern restaurant that I would love to try! Especially now that I’ve spent this little while talking and thinking about them!
Ever had a falafel before? What did you think?
