While in DC on a research trip with my school we snuck in as many landmarks and museums as we could spare the time for. Spending the majority of our day inside the archives at the USHMM made getting outside and visiting the more tourist spots in DC a very welcome break!
We were able to also see the changing of the gaurd and wouldn't you know it, my cell phone started ringing right when it went silent! party foul! luckily I just slipped right into a nearby door leading into a gallery of war pins, gifts from other contries and random items on display to hide my embarrassment!
This chair is front and center of an ampitheatre and I stole the idea of taking a photo in it from some fellow tourists. You know the drill 'I'll take your photo if you take mine?'
Arlington Cemetery was an interesting visit, one I learned as with most US landmarks and events is laced with greed, technicalities and idealized memories. Worth the visit and it was a beautiful day, I wish I could have spent longer time exploring and hearing more history and stories from the drivers (they seemed to know the more interesting facts and tid-bits than the unoriginal and repetitive stories the markers and plaques)
